In this presentation, recent results obtained at the Klinikum der Universität München will be presented. Examples include the Camera-Augmented Mobile C-arm (CamC) for trauma and orthopaedic surgeries, and the Magic Mirror and HMD-based augmented reality technologies for serious gaming, medical education and residency training. Finally, action plans will be highlighted towards revolutionizing the design and development of physiological sensing, robotic imaging, visualization, and advanced user interactions. In this way, novel solutions and technologies can be effectively translated inside the operating rooms of tomorrow.
Pascal Fallavollita is currently an Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. From 2008-2010, Pascal completed a postdoctoral fellowship in collaboration with the teams at Queen's University and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (JHU). Afterwards, he led the research activities at the Navigation and Augmented Reality Visualization System (NARVIS) laboratory, of the Chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures, Technische Universität München, considered being among the world-class leaders in translational research and medical augmented reality. He is co-editor of the International Society for Computer Aided Surgery (ICSAS) newsletter. He also co-organized the Augmented Environments for Computer-Assisted Interventions workshop at MICCAI, A 'Look Into' Medical Augmented Reality workshop at ISMAR, and is Area Chair at IPCAI. Working alongside surgeons, psychologists, and computer scientists, he has participated in the dissemination of over 90 high impact publications and patents. His research interests include medical augmented reality, surgical simulation and training, intra-operative imaging and navigation, and development of surgical systems and user interfaces for therapy delivery.
